St Andrews Strings
St Andrews Strings is St Andrews' only string orchestra playing music from across the whole range of string repertoire. Formed in 2017, the group is the Music Society's youngest ensemble.
Strings consists of around 16 - 20 auditioned string players (roughly 9 violins, 3 violas, 3 cellos and a double bass) and performs without a conductor when appropriate. Repertoire ranges from Bach and Vivaldi to Finzi, Mahler and Piazzola.
The ensemble rehearses weekly on a Thursday from 5 - 7pm in Younger Hall's Rehearsal Room. The group typically performs twice a year in concerts alongside the University of St Andrews Chamber Choir.
This year's Martinmas Semester concert will take place on Friday 22nd November in St Salvator's Chapel.
Contact Izzy Rzym firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
If candidates wish to be considered for both St Andrews Strings and St Andrews Symphony Orchestra, a single Symphony audition should be arranged. See here.
If only interested in St Andrews Strings, a separate audition (consisting of a prepared piece and some sight-reading) can be arranged for Monday 16th September in Practice Room 2 (Younger Hall). This can be done by speaking to a Music Society committee member at either Music Fayre or Freshers' Fayre.
