Tuesday 3rd December 2024
Music Society Christmas Concert
15:00-16:00
McPherson Recital Hall, Laidlaw Music Centre
Tickets: Pay what you can (Minimum £1).
St Andrews Music Society welcomes you to their revived tradition of an annual Christmas concert - an afternoon filled with festive cheer and performances from both Mussoc groups and other chamber ensembles.

Always a night to remember, the concert will feature a wide array of styles and genres, from classic swing to film and popular music. The night will get started by the Wind Band playing a varied yet enthralling repertoire with music spanning several genres including pieces from Tim Burtons ‘A Nightmare Before Christmas’, and the Hot Latin medley. As it has become standard in recent performances, in the second half Big BUStA will also be playing some pieces arranged by their own members, so come along to hear a world premiere or two!

Strings will cover the gamut of classical music with repertoire from the dawn of the Classical period by the lesser-known composer William Boyce, as well as Holst’s celebrated St Paul’s Suite. Chamber Choir will showcase a variety of pieces from the choral repertoire by composers such as Lauridsen and Martini and are delighted to be premiering a new piece by composer Nick Fairbank as part of the PlanetWoman project. Strings and Chamber Choir will continue their collaboration by finishing with a joint performance of Lacrimosa from Mozart’s Requiem!
The University of St Andrews’ largest professionally conducted ensemble is delighted to enthral the public with the semester one concert, themed ‘Myths and Legends’. The dynamic and varied repertoire will include excerpts from the iconic Peer Gynt Suite such as Morning Mood and In the Hall of the Mountain King, and Stravinsky’s electric 1919 Firebird Suite, among other well-known storied pieces. Come along to witness past and present classics the evening of November 28th.
Ukelear Fusion, St. Andrew’s only ukulele band, is back for our end of semester concert! Come enjoy some fun with the group, some wholesome songs and some great vibes.
Social Events

As well as group socials after rehearsals, we also organise larger whole society events such as our Fresher's BBQ, Formal Dinner and Music Ball!
Ceilidh and Symphony of Lash
We're holding a Ceilidh on the 16th of November at 7pm in Holy Trinity Church Halls. This will be Music Society's largest event of the semester so come along for a night of live music, raffles (bring cash!) and dancing - it's also a great chance to meet other people from across the society!
